WE3, by Grant Morrison

I purchased, read, and loved the 3 part story WE3 written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Frank Quitely. WE3 is a story about three pets who are kidnapped by the government and put through an experimental program to turn them into fighting machines.

I thoroughly enjoyed the grotesque depictions of the fight scenes. There’s just something about a heavily armored cat shooting metal shards into the eyeballs of a soldier that gives me a dumb grin on my face. Also, the explosive rabbit pellets were a nice touch.

I’m not the only one who likes WE3. In July 2005, it was reported that “New Line Cinema is in talks to acquire the rights to the WE3 comic mini-series from DC Comic’s Vertigo Imprint.”

I’m generally not the biggest Grant Morrison fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed WE3. In my opinion, it covered both important fronts of the medium… an engaging story and incredible art.

As far as the film goes, look me in the eye and say you don’t fear the studio casting some A-list Hollywood types to voice the animals. Ben Affleck as Bandit!
